Sonja started to pay attention to taste in her previous career in hospitality. She had focused on wine up until that point, in 2013 specialty coffee caught her attention.
Besides roasting and serving coffee at La Cabra Coffee Roasters in Aarhus, she is the founder of the female coffee community Barista Connect. The two-time Austrian barista champion (2014 and 2015) repeatedly noticed the severe lack of women at the other competition tables, and this notion led her to bring together as many female colleagues as possible from various parts of the industry in 2015. At this point two successful Barista Connect events focusing on equality, inspiration and network have gathered passionate coffee women from all around the world.
