Mikael Jasin
Common Grounds Coffee Roaster

Please tell us a little about yourself:

Hi, my name is Mikael and I have been in coffee for around 7 years. I now work as a Marketing & Coffee Quality Manager for Common Grounds Coffee Roasters & ST. ALi Family Jakarta, in Indonesia. I am excited to compete in my first WBC!

What are you excited to do in Boston?:

Seeing coffee friends from around the world.

Please list the coffee competitions you have participated in, what year they took place, and your results:

2015 Australian Coffee in Good Spirits – 2nd Place
2016 Australian Coffee in Good Spirits – 2nd Place
2018 Indonesian Barista Championship – 2nd Place
2019 Indonesian Barista Championship – 1st Place

How do you see the coffee industry changing in the future?:

I see an exponential leap in coffee quality around the world, as a result of both better technology and better understanding of agriculture & processing techniques.

Where do you see yourself in five years?:

Still in the coffee industry, obviously.

What are your interests outside of coffee?:

Natural wine, cooking, fermentation.

Is there anyone you would like to thank or recognize, or who helped you to prepare for the WBC?:

My whole team at Common Grounds and the Specialty Coffee Association of Indonesia along with all Indonesian coffee professionals.
