Doubleshothaving kebab in Mustafa kebab :D

Please tell us a little about yourself:

I’m not a barista—I manage wholesale for our roastery, but I like to compete so for a few weeks a year I attend all the competitions that I can handle in such short period of time. I like craft beer, natural wine, and books.

How did you get started in coffee?:

I was forced by my teacher to take a barista course at high school in 2010, and I really liked it. So I was pulling shots anytime I could. Eventually I won some high school Slovak barista champs in 2011, so I kinda realized coffee could be my thing.

Please list the coffee competitions you have participated in, what year they took place, and your results:

Slovak Brewers Cup Championship – 3rd Place
Slovak Barista Championship 2016 – 4th Place
Slovak Brewers Cup Championship 2016 – 4th Place
Czech Barista Championship 2017 – 6th Place
Czech Coffee in Good Spirits Championship 2018 – 2nd Place
Czech Coffee in Good Spirits Championship 2019 – 1st Place

What are you excited to do in Berlin?:

Having a kebab in Mustafa kebab :D

What was your first amazing experience with coffee?:

Well, I think it was my first specialty coffee experience back in 2014. It was a natuarlly processed Ethiopia brewed in Chemex by my friend, a roaster. I didn’t like it at all—it smelled weird and tasted even worse, but it made me look for an answer as to why. Why it smelled and tasted that way. So I got into speciality coffee by disliking it at first :D

Besides your own competition drink, do you have a favorite cocktail?:

A Campari soda.

What coffee-producing country interests or excites you most?:

Costa Rica.

What are your interests outside of coffee?:

Craft beer, natural wine, politics, and football.

Where do you see yourself in five years?:

Hopefully still where I am now—in Doubleshot, managing wholesale, which I like a lot.

Is there anyone you would like to thank or recognize, or who helped you to prepare for the WCIGS?:

My wife and daughter; Doubleshot roastery ; National body of Czech Speciality Coffee Association — thank you.
