Please tell us a little about yourself:

Dan Fellows, 2018 World Coffee in Good Spirits Champion. Based in London, and fortunate to have travelled across Asia hosting coffee cocktail events and masterclasses.

How did you get started in coffee?:

On my 18th birthday, I was invited to work on the bar in an amazing place in my hometown, which served very high quality coffee and cocktails. As soon as I started exploring both, I was immediately hooked and began my journey to connect the two together.

Please list the coffee competitions you have participated in, what year they took place, and your results:

World Coffee in Good Spirits Champion 2018
3x UK Coffee in Good Spirits Champion (2019, 2018, 2012)
UK Barista Champion 2016

What are you excited to do in Berlin?:

I have been experimenting and developing this routine for almost two years, so I am incredibly excited to finally present it on the world stage!

What was your first amazing experience with coffee?:

I remember tasting what ended up being my first competition coffee when visiting London. As soon as I tried this coffee, I knew I wanted to showcase it and have loved El Salvador as an origin ever since.

Besides your own competition drink, do you have a favorite cocktail?:

Any cocktail with a story to tell and a purpose to exist. And it has to be delicious!

What coffee-producing country interests or excites you most?:

I have been fortunate to work very closely with Carlos and Patricia Pola from Juayua in El Salvador for WCiGS 2019, and they will actually be in Berlin to support, which is a privilege. They have been incredibly open-minded and supportive, and have made my routine possible!

What are your interests outside of coffee?:

Cocktails!, travelling, seeing the world and spreading the love of coffee cocktails to like-minded baristas and bartenders, and powerlifting – I enjoy the objectivity of the sport.

Where do you see yourself in five years?:

My hope is to continue connecting the amazing worlds of coffee and cocktails.

Is there anyone you would like to thank or recognize, or who helped you to prepare for the WCIGS?:

My fiancée Emma for allowing our house to become a cocktail bar for the past year!

The Pola and Mierisch families for the amazing coffees and support.

Team Origin Coffee for their ongoing support.

Everyone who has watched, tasted and given feedback on my routine and drinks.

SCA UK, WCE, and all the judges and volunteers for giving up their time to make these competitions so amazing!
